Create an HMRC Account (If You Don't Have One)
If you don't have an account, you can register for one:
👉 Create a Government Gateway Account
You'll need:
- Your National Insurance Number
- A UK passport, driving licence, payslip, or P60 (for identity verification)
- An email address and phone number
Registration usually takes just a few minutes, and once complete, you'll have full access to your personal tax records.

Log into Your HMRC Personal Account
To view your employment history, you’ll need to log into your HMRC personal tax account:
👉 Log in to HMRC Online Services
If you already have an account, sign in using your Government Gateway ID and password. You may also need to verify your identity using your phone or email.

Access Your PAYE (Pay As You Earn) Section
Once logged into your HMRC account:
- Navigate to "PAYE (Pay As You Earn)" on your account dashboard.
- Click on "Check current and previous employments".
You’ll now see a breakdown of all your previous jobs reported to HMRC by your employers, including:
- Employer name
- Employment start and end dates
- Total income received from each job
- PAYE tax paid each year
This is your official employment history as recorded by HMRC.

Download or Screenshot for Your Records
While HMRC does not provide a one-click download in PDF format, you can:
- Take a screenshot of your employment history
- Copy and paste the records into a document
- Print the web page as a PDF
These methods are widely accepted for documentation purposes, including visa applications, mortgage approvals, and tax evidence.
